“I love Lioba’s classes. She has a lovely, gentle and authentic presence. She always seems to strike the right balance between physical challenge and spiritual nourishment and has an uncanny knack of focusing on the very thing I need. I always feel better after class, often just floating off into the evening after!”

Why practice yoga?
I believe becoming embodied and aware through a conscious yoga practice is fundamental to my ability to live a healthy and happy life. If we are connected to our breath, present in our bodies, centred in our hearts, and aware of our mental processes, we can create more flow in our relationships, and in our lives – something we can practice on and off our mats.
What is yoga?
Yoga is about developing self-awareness, and presence, and a greater sense of connection between the body and mind, especially through the conscious use of breath.
It is also the art of moving beyond limiting beliefs of who we are to an understanding of our essential nature.
Yoga means ‘union’ – union with ‘all that is’, with our true nature, with the divine. There are many practices that help us find this including ‘asana’ (physical postures), ‘pranayama’ (breathwork), ‘bhakti’ (devotional chanting) and ‘dhyana’ (meditation).
How is it practised?
The most common form of yoga we see in the West is the practice of physical asanas or postures. Traditionally, the aim of doing these was to create greater flexibility and openness in the body to prepare it for sitting in meditation.
There are many benefits to performing the asanas including improved posture, greater body awareness, concentration, relaxation, enhanced body functions and so forth.
Additionally the practise of yoga helps to free the flow of energy or ‘prana’ through the ‘nadis’ , our subtle energy channels in the body, increasing our sense of wellbeing.
What are the benefits?
Through meditation we become present to ‘what is’, we create some space from our thoughts and feelings and realise there is a part of us that is ‘not them’. It can bring us a sense of peace and contentment, clarity and joy as we connect to the ground of our Being.
In the yogic tradition this is sometimes referred to as ‘Sat Chit Ananda’ - True Being, Consciousness and Bliss. It is a powerful tool for centering and nourishing ourselves in the midst of the complex and chaotic lives we often lead.
"Lioba is wise and knowledgeable and invites students to go a little deeper into their practice, mentally as well as physically, to really explore and nurture the effects of yoga – it feels like coming home!”

“Lioba never fails to surprise and present new challenges with her creative, heartfelt practice. I love her classes and she has the insight gained through practice, to make the yoga she teaches her own”
