Shiatsu & Massage
Shiatsu
Shiatsu literally means ‘finger pressure’. It is a Japanese healing art that uses the map of the energy body taken from Chinese medicine.
Through sensitive and intuitive touch the energy (meridians) is accessed with the aim of helping to restore the flow of Ki (life force) and in this way bring about balance, relaxation, and greater wellbeing.
A shiatsu session takes place fully clothed on a futon on the floor and may involve a variety of techniques including deep pressure, stretches, rocking, joint mobilisations, acupressure and holding.
What can it help with?
Shiatsu can be a deeply relaxing experience and can also provide relief from a variety of symptoms including: headaches, pre-menstrual tension, digestive issues, low mood, lower backache, frozen shoulder and fatigue.
By creating a safe, supportive space we can explore whatever physical, mental or emotional difficulties you are experiencing.
How I work
The form of a shiatsu may vary greatly from session to session. I may offer you some EFT tapping to release emotional stuckness or we might focus on breathwork depending on your needs. Sometimes longer sessions are preferable to allow for this.
Pregnancy, labour and post-natal recovery
Shiatsu is wonderfully safe and supportive for a woman journeying through the stages of pregnancy – helping her to feel at ease physically, mentally and emotionally. It can provide relief from nausea, lower backache, shoulder tension, difficulties in breathing, constipation, anxiety, oedema, post-natal depression and fatigue.
The Five Elements
Shiatsu sees the human being as a reflection of the natural elements in the world around us; Water, Air, Fire, Metal, and Earth. Each element relates to different seasons, qualities, emotions and organs within the body – and the relationship between these elements can indicate where imbalances lie.
Prices

Concessions are available, please contact me for details.
1.5 hours is particularly useful if you want to explore a physical or emotional area more deeply and if you would like supportive advice on mind-body connection, or a healthy lifestyle.
Note: Please wear comfortable clothing. It is best not to eat for at least an hour prior to treatment, and also important to give yourself time after a session to process before moving on to the next thing.
“Lioba has an amazing gift for bodywork. I always leave feeling lighter, unburdened and with energy flowing again. She creates a wonderfully warm and safe space to open up. As an asthmatic she’s helped me be more in tune with the areas of my body which can become tense and cause my asthma to worsen.”

“I’ve been a client of Lioba’s for several years. Our usual session is a deep tissue massage – which I find both invigorating and relaxing. An important oasis in my busy week.”
